ICC Certified Permit Technician

  • Knowledge of building codes, construction terminology, and local permitting processes is a plus.
  • Must obtain ICC Permit Technician Certification within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Serve the public at the Building Services counter and by phone, responding to inquiries with patience and professionalism.
  • Receive, process, and issue building permits and plan checks, including intake and routing of digital and paper plans.
  • Answer general and technical questions regarding permit procedures, fees, inspections, and building codes.
  • Coordinate the permit and inspection process with City departments and outside agencies.
  • Input permit data, fees, and application details into the City’s tracking and cashiering systems.
  • Track and monitor the status of applications, permits, and plan checks, and notify applicants of pending expirations.
  • Maintain clear and accurate records, including daily logs and monthly/quarterly activity reports.
  • Collect and verify required construction documents, including Waste Management Plans and other submittals.
  • Maintain and update forms, handouts, and procedural documentation in compliance with City, State, and other applicable regulations.
  • Facilitate fee collection and coordination with other departments or agencies, as necessary.
